Nicaragua & El Salvador Food🫓
This blog will include all the delicious meals we had in Nicaragua and El Salvador! As these countries were a lot cheaper than Costa Rica, we made the most of this and ate out for a few meals!
Nicaragua
Hostel Life is Good
We stayed at this hostel and it had its own restaurant attached to it! It served all kinds of Nicaraguan and Asian fusion dishes and they were all incredibly delicious. Our favourite dishes were the Tikka Masala and the Sweet and Sour chicken.

Dale Pues, San Juan
We went here for Ned’s birthday and it didn’t disappoint! They serve all kinds of incredible dishes, from pasta, to burgers, tacos and burritos, it was so hard for us to choose. We ended up getting the Chipotle Prawns with garlic toast for a starter before getting the Chicken Chipotle and Greek Salad Wrap for mains. The restaurant itself, is in the middle of the town, only a five minutes walk away from the surrounding bars.

Comedor Mendoza, Popoyo
This local restaurant served the most generous portions of Nicaraguan food! It is very popular in the town because not only is the food delicious, it is incredibly cheap! We had such an amazing meal, that we went back again because the portions filled us up for the whole day.

The Garden Cafe, Granada
The Garden Cafe is a beautiful, outdoor cafe in Granada, which serves a variety of dishes from greasy pastas and burgers to healthy sandwiches and smoothie bowls! We had the best brunch of the trip, I got the chicken salad bowl and Ned got the chicken alfredo!

Other eats in Granada:
- ViaVia - a huge restaurant and hotel offering all kinds of dishes. We went for six different tapas dishes and they were all incredible. The pork meatballs and tacos were our favourites!
- Pan y Paz - a really good bakery serving fresh pastries and cakes and all kinds of brunch dishes!
- Comedor Lucia - a traditional, local restaurant serving a buffet of different Nicaraguan dishes! We got a full plate and it was delicious and so cheap!

El Salvador
Casa Coco Hostel, Santa Ana
Casa Coco Hostel hosts a pupusa cooking class. Pupusa is a thick, Salvadoran flatbread made from cornflour dough. It is typically stuffed with savory fillings like cheese, refried beans, or seasoned pork, and then fried until golden and crispy. If you don’t do this cooking class, you must try a pupusas from a street food stall, they are delicious!

1961 Los Naranjos Bar & Cafe, Santa Ana
1961 was an incredible bar we stumbled across, whilst driving through Ruta de las Flores. They serve the most delicious dishes, have beers from a lot of different countries and have huge seating areas, perfect for watching the World Cup.
